Dukes County Sheriff's Office
The Dukes County Sheriff's Office, and the Martha's Vineyard Chiefs of Police Association have introduced the 3-1-1 Non-Emergency System to the citizens of Dukes County. This new service will provide a more efficient method with which the public can access Police Department resources. It is anticipated that the 3-1-1 system will reduce the number of unnecessary 9-1-1 calls, thereby decreasing the overall response time to life- threatening emergencies. The Dukes County Sheriff's Office and the Martha's Vineyard Chiefs of Police Association are the first in New England to implement 3-1-1. We have a proud history of meeting the challenge to provide the finest public service to it's citizens. We are proud to be a part of the national effort to reduce the number of unnecessary calls to the 9-1-1 system that the
public depends on for emergency police, fire, and medical assistance.

WHAT IS 3-1-1?
3-1-1 is a three digit telephone number used to contact your local police department to report non-emergencies and to access your town information, including local events.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF 3-1-1?
3-1-1 is used to reduce the number of 9-1-1 calls. More than 40% of the calls made to 9-1-1 systems are estimated to be non-emergencies.
WHEN SHOULD SOMEONE CALL 3-1-1?
- Disturbances such as loud music
- Parking problems
- Crimes no longer in progress, (illegally parked cars)
